Rockin' With the Stars- reflection

We had a very good turnout for our 1st Rockin' with the Stars event at Greenbush last night! The weather ended up great, it had been raining all morning, but cleared up nicely for the evening. Shane, John and Rick Duling kicked things off by playing some great music. We also had Dan Peak give a nice welcome for United Way.
Terri, Diane, and Johnna were busy in the community building cooking hot dogs and selling raffle tickets!
Jennifer was our photographer for the evening!

Josh and Lisa let people tour the Science Center and see a media globe presentation, it did not clear off quite soon enough to open the observatory.
Cousin Eddie kicked off the second set and did a great job!
Be sure to check out their upcoming shows on their website www.cousineddieband.com

Matthew Clark had a article in the Pittsburg paper here:

KOAM TV Interview - Sept. 7th, 2007
Folks in Girard, Kansas want your vote to bring country music cameras to town. Staff at Greenbush recently submitted a video for the Homegrown contest and CMT selected them as a top four finalist.
The video showcases what makes Girard a great city. It also features music from a senior at Girard High School.
Darren Couch edited the Homegrown video. He just learned how to use a computer for video editing in the last few months. Couch hopes your vote will attract CMT.
"We always knew if we could make it to the final four, the community and the people of Southeast Kansas and the Four State area would rally around if we put a voting campaign out there, it's just this type of community,” says Couch.
You can cast your vote on CMT's website: http://www.cmt.com/asm/contests/cmt-homegrown/hometown/vote.jhtml
All votes must be cast by September 21.
Girard is up against New Orleans, Greenville, South Carolina, and Hackleburg, Alabama.

Successful Ustream for The Stephens Family
Yesterday, through the magic of technology and a little help from above, we were able to send a live stream from Pittsburg, KS to KU Medical Center so that Jeff Stephens could watch his daughter graduate high school. (See story here)
I was very excited and nervous to have this opportunity. You never know with technology what can and usually will go wrong.
Thanks to Brian Boore for going with me to PSU on Thursday,
making sure that our computer and connection was adequate and for the equipment needed to make this happen.
Thanks to Tom Holt and PSU for working with us to make sure we had a good connection in the Weede building.
Thanks to Russ for coming out Sunday morning to get the cables I
forgot to do the broadcast! Russ was also the man behind Sunday's
broadcast that made sure the stream was going out and had sound.
This could not have been possible without all of you and the many of
people that have also helped us with streaming along the way.
A special thanks to Ustream.tv and Brad Hunstable this has opened up many doors for us and other educators!
Sunday afternoon, I got to the building a little after 1pm. Got everything setup and then started having some trouble. Firefox would crash when I tried to go live with the stream. I restarted my machine 3 or 4 times. Finally, between 1:45 and 1:50 the stream started working and Russ helped me get the audio sounding good. For the rest of the graduation we had a great signal and un-interrupted stream.
I am so happy that things worked out and we were able to help Jeff and his family at this moment in time.
